On November 16, the British Government granted the license for the first spaceport, paving the way for the country's first satellite launch this year.

On November 16, the British Government granted the license for the first spaceport, paving the way for the country's first satellite launch this year.

This is the UK's attempt to become a leading country in Europe in the field of aerospace.

UK issues first Spaceport licenseph: Cornwall Airport

According to an announcement by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a permit has been issued to Cornwall Airport in the town of Newquay, South West England.  The airport has met safety, security and environmental standards to be a spaceport.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority also said that it is in the process of finalizing a license for British billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Orbit company to carry out the satellite launch.  The launch is expected to take place before the end of this year.

The licensing of the Cornwall spaceport brings The UK closer to its goal of becoming the first country to launch satellites into orbit from a spaceport in Europe.

The UK has a large space industry with 47,000 employees working in satellite manufacturing.  The UK government estimates that the addition of satellite launch capacity will add £3.8 billion ($4.5 billion) to the UK economy over the next decade.
