The CES 2022 consumer electronics exhibition in Los Angeles recently showed that many big companies in the world are very interested in the virtual universe (metaverse), considering it a part of their development orientation.

At a media event on Tuesday, LG showcased a number of metaverse-related startups that it is partnering with in an incubation program.  Among them are iQ3 - a company that builds training programs for businesses in virtual reality and I3M - a startup that offers the opportunity to travel the world in the metaverse.

Hyundai Motor Group has launched a new concept "metamobility" - a combination of the words: “metaverse” and “mobility” to develop beyond the automotive business.

In 2021, Hyundai acquired robot maker Boston Dynamics from SoftBank.  At the CES 2022 exhibition in Las Vegas, Hyundai's robot dog Spot was very noticeable. Hyundai describes a metaverse future where many robotic devices act as the link between the virtual world and the physical world.

Panasonic chose to start the metaverse experience with the hardware.  This Japanese corporation introduced the MeganeX - a VR headset that weighs around 28 grams which is much lighter than current devices like Meta's Oculus.

Is China The Ideal Destination For International Brands?

Despite the overall decline in China's retail sales since the pandemic began, luxury sales are still up 36% year-on-year in 2020, hitting 471 billion yuan (73.59 billion USD) in 2021. This is more than twice compared to 234 billion yuan in 2019. The data reflects the growth of China's domestic market as an ideal destination for international brands.

According to a recent study by MBO Partners, as many as 7.3 million Americans describe themselves as digital nomads. Compared to the previous year, this number has increased to over 2.3 million.  In March 2019, MBO Partners conducted a survey of 3,985 US residents, with support from the Rockbridge Association and Emergent Research, and they recently released the result of this survey.
