It's not over-eating, but research has found that there are 5 other things that cause obesity.

People have long thought that obesity is caused by over-eating.  People of all ages blame obesity on over-eating, however, it turns out that this is not entirely true.

According to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the real reason for obesity is frequent consumption of convenience, processed and prepackaged foods.  These foods change the body's metabolism, change the way the body processes and stores fat, thus leading to obesity.

A diet high in processed foods, high in refined carbohydrates, and high in sugar - as instant noodles, cold sandwiches, pizza, donuts, bacon... could be lead to obesity.  These foods are high in saturated fat and even simple carbs that can be easily broken down into glucose, stored in the blood, which in turn causes the pancreas to produce too much insulin leading to weight gain.  Over time can lead to obesity.

Additionally, there are the following 5 other reasons leading to obesity.

1- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

It is one of the most common causes of obesity in women.  According to the National Library of Medicine, between 40 and 80 percent of women with PCOS are also overweight or obese.  The reason is that this syndrome affects the metabolic rate, leading to abnormal metabolism and an increased risk of both diabetes and obesity.

2- Sedentary

A sedentary lifestyle plays a huge role in obesity.  On the one hand, the body still absorbs calories in, but if you do not participate in any physical activity, the body will accumulate fat which leads to obesity over time.

Especially people who have jobs with a lot of sitting, need to stand up and walk to keep their body active and avoid the risk of obesity.

3- Heredity

Genetics plays a huge role in obesity, because it regulates how the body processes and stores fat, just as diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome can be inherited.  People whose parents are both obese are more likely to be obese.

4- Hormonal Deficiency

A deficiency in hormones like leptin can lead to obesity over time.

Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells in the body, often referred to as the fullness hormone or the weight-regulating hormone.

When the body has enough stored fat, leptin is responsible for telling the brain that it does not need to eat more and can burn calories at a normal rate.

When the body does not absorb enough leptin hormone, it will lead to an imbalance of this hormone, which will eventually cause obesity.

5- Stress and anxiety

Emotions and mood swings affect the way you eat, making many people, especially teenagers, like to eat a lot of sugar, ready-to-eat convenience foods - which can gradually lead to obesity.  This can also happen due to boredom.

However, the danger is that eating when in a stressful mood can cause an eating disorder.
