Taiwan is determined not to be left out when it comes to boosting numbers of visitors during the re-booming tourism; they are offering cash rewards of up to $165 per individual tourist, as well as up to $658 to tour groups. This is all part of their plan to reach a target of 6 million visitors by 2023 and 10 million by 2025.

To reach this goal, 500,000 individual tourists will receive NT$5,000 ($165) each, while 90,000 tour groups will be awarded up to NT$20,000 (US$658). Tourists can then use the money to cover expenses such as accommodation during their stay.

The main markets for the initiative include Japan, Southeast Asia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Europe and the Americas. As of 2022, only 900,000 visitors are came – mainly from Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan and the United States, which is significantly lower than the record 11.8 million tourists that visited Taiwan in 2019.
